In order to become a Young
Leader (YL) in Scouting, you must be aged between 14 and 18 years.
You do not have to attend District
Explorer meetings if you do not want to! But you will be invited to attend
their events; and, may take part in any of their Award Schemes, including the Duke
of Edinburgh.
You will meet as your own Section about 3 to 4 times
a year, on an evening; or, at the weekend – you decide!
As a YL you are then allowed
to work with the younger aged sections of Beavers, Cubs and Scouts to develop your
own leadership skills.
However, if you leave your Troop to become a YL, you are not permitted to return to it until 6 months
have lapsed.
Whilst working as a YL,
you are required to carry out some training of your own in a modular form.
They are as follows:-
