| DORCHESTER DISTRICT SCOUTS GET CRAFTY - 01/03/08 |
A record number of teams of Cub Scouts competed against each other in the District
‘Scrapheap Challenge’ held on 1st March 2008. Using colleted junk and materials,
the teams of up to six cubs were given the challenge of designing a children’s playground.
It was a chance for the budding designers of the future let their imagination run
wild but also to make their design proposals realistic.
Nine Packs were represented:
Broadmayne, Central, Central Sawmills. Charminster, Crossways, First Dorchester
– Everest, Maiden Newton, Milborne St. Andrew and Piddle & Cerne Valley.
The Scout Hut at Little Britain, now a District meeting place was a hive of activity
and full to bursting point. It made for a difficult decision for the two judges
Janet Dadswell and Beryl Harris who not only judged the final model but the planning
and preparation and the team work that went into the project. After much deliberation
the honours went to Charminster who will now go on to represent the District at
the County finals due to be held at Wimborne in March.
